Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen Shangri-la East Wing

We finally had the chance to try out the much talked about Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen last June 28, a Friday. The last time we attempted to try this place out failed, and had us trying out neighboring restaurants. We went straight to the restaurant at 12nn and good thing we were able to get decent seats. At around 12:30pm, the place was packed and had customers lined up! 

The numerous rave reviews, long lines and consistently packed venue had us wondering what Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen had in store for us.

We had a serving of dumplings to start.

We loved how they were served piping hot and juicy. I found the dumpling size a little smaller than what I'd prefer, but liked the slightly crispy texture and flavour. Some of the dumplings however, were served stuck side by side and I ended up literally tearing some off.

Nikko had the basic Ajitama Tonkotsu, the restaurant's best seller with the add-on of a perfectly prepared Ajitama or hard boiled egg with slightly gooey yolk. So far, this ramen restaurant is the first to ask whether we'd prefer medium, soft or hard noodles. His dish featured a full-bodied soup with slight spiciness. It's garnished with chasu, spring onions, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed. He loved the dish 'til the last drop!
Ajitama Tonkotsu [Php 380]
Going for adventure, I tried out the Black Garlic Tonkotsu. The intriguing name and my love for garlic had me going for this at first sight. With a unique garlic-ky flavour, I loved the aroma and taste of this dish. I had to turn a blind eye to the extra layer of oil floating on top of the soup to enjoy it -- and I did.  I had the noodles "hard" since it was how the Japanese clientele preferred their noodles. Garnished with tender chasu, green onions, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed plus the roast garlic oil, this dish is worth coming back for.

I tried my hardest to ignore the floating oil and managed to finish even the last bit of soup. It was that good!

The fresh dalandan juice was a good refreshing way to clean my palate from all that thick richness.
