Ninak at Kapitolyo Pasig

We agreed to celebrate my "decent" weight gain the past month by having a scrumptious and heavy meal at Ninak. Kanin (rice in Filipino) spelled backwards, the name suggests a great food adventure ahead.

Opened just last month, the restaurant is starting to gain popularity along the East Capitol Drive foodstrip.

More seats and a function room are available upstairs.

To start, we were given complimentary fried crackers to munch on.

Since the place is known for food best enjoyed with rice, we ordered a plate of Ninak Rice, said to be infused with their special Ninak sauce. The strong onion taste gave it an edge over our favorite garlic rice.

We also had some Chicken Satay with cucumber relish and spicy peanut sauce. With tender chunks of chicken seasoned just right, three sticks per head just wasn't enough.

I used the cucumber relish as an alternative to the peanut sauce for some lighter bites from the meal.

Another dish we tried was the spicy Green Curry Chilean Mussels. Served in a pot and distributed to smaller bowls, the strong flavours should not be mistaken for soup, which I initially did. It was because of this dish in particular that we had to get more rice from our neighbouring table where Chef Quito Jose's brother DJ was having lunch.

I couldn't have too much of the dish (pregnant), but the four pieces I had, together with its rich, flavourful sauce was enough for me to say that this is something worth coming back for.

Another main dish we shared was the Lamb Massaman Curry. This Thai curry dish came at us out of nowhere, authentic-tasting and packed with rich tones. The warming flavours suits rice very well, similar to the other dishes we had.

To end our meal, we were offered a refreshing complimentary Thai Red Ruby dessert by DJ. Made from water chestnuts and coconut milk, the treat is an up-and-coming to their menu.

Here's sharing their menu:

Ninak may seem altogether new to the North-based crowd, but some people have noted its presence way back in Northgate Cyberzone in Alabang. It used to be well known for its Crispy Beef Belly, still present in today's menu. They have also been present in Salcedo's food market during Saturdays.

With huge serving portions, it's a great place to spend quality time with friends or family.
