Maple at the Shangri-la East Wing

Shangri-la Plaza mall is one of my least frequented malls around the metro. We went by hearing about the newly constructed East Wing, and the new outlets that came with it. We rounded the floors quickly and spotted Maple, and decided to have our merienda there.

An easel right outside the restaurant displays everything they serve, easily breaking the ice between the restaurant and those that may be intimidated. Here's their menu:

This sign gave me a hint of the fairy tale adventure we are about to partake.

Well, surprise surprise! Other people were enjoying merienda at Maple as well.

Group parties are very much welcome here.

Various coloured maple syrup décor bring warmth and ancient feel to the modern restaurant.

This cozy section reminds me of our wedding colour theme. ❤

Considering the restaurant's size, I'm glad they were able to integrate this kiddie section with storybooks and toys, complementing with their Fairy Tale theme.

A Maple tree cutout serves as the centerpiece of the restaurant.

Check out their menu.. What great attention to detail!

Thanks to the cover story, we knew the secret words to mumble to get our orders: "Ink, pink, piggy's feet, give me something good to eat!'.

We started with the Spaetzle Jambalaya. Fresh Spaetzle pasta with Maple's own Jambalaya sauce, topped with shrimps and Chilean Mussels. We went for this immediately when we found out that this was causing the intriguing smell that surrounded the restaurant as we entered.

Served on a sizzling pan, the odd combination of this Spanish sauce with the German pasta excited our appetites.

Hot plates always win me over, thanks to their capacity to keep the food warm throughout the meal. With bell peppers, onions, peas and celery, the play of flavours and textures had us enjoying every bite.

For dessert, we ordered the Banana Pecan Waffle. Buttermilk waffle topped with caramelized then flambeed bananas and maple-glazed pecans.

Fluffy-soft and thick, the texture would have been perfect if we were having pancakes. I'd like it a little crisper. Other than that, the flavours were perfect. The maple syrup is an essential add-on, embracing the entire dessert with hints of caramel flavours.

They're really thick!

We ended up stuffing ourselves to contentment, enjoying the food, ambiance and good service. With the enticing and "fresh" look of the East Wing, plus the handsome soon-to-open outlets lined up, I may be spending more time hanging around this mall soon.

Maple is the second branch within the Metro by the Pancake House Group, which also houses food brands Dencio's, Teriyaki Boy, Kabisera and Le Coeur de France among others.
