Atelier 317 at the Rockwell Vicinity

It was a relaxing Saturday noon almost two weeks ago when we passed by Atelier 317 for lunch. Located at a street somewhere near the Ateneo Grad School at Rockwell, the obscurity suggested something special was in store.






We chanced upon the duration when Nomama had set-up a pop-up kitchen within the restaurant, but skipped having some of it since we intended for Atelier 317 food. Being QC-based, Nomama is quite accessible to us anyway.







We started with the Spicy Pumpkin Soup split to two. It had a weird consistency, almost viand-type and tasted very much like curry. Too much of the spice overpowered the pumpkin flavours.

The Lamb Gyoza was unique in form but ordinary in taste. I loved the Harissa (Tunisian hot chili sauce) combined with yogurt that came with it, which saved the dish from being a bore.

Nikko had their bestseller Balsamic Beef Adobo. Slow-cooked US Black Angus Short Rib, topped with fresh tarragon and ginger-orange julienne

The adobo was borderline bistek-tasting, thanks to the tang from the ginger-orange julienne. It came with Portobello Mushroom Red Rice Sinangag, a great match to the adobo. It was neither soft as expected nor described, failing the "cooked to soft abandon" description.

From the menu, I had a lot I wanted to try out, but couldn't get my eyes off this mouthwateringly described dish: Made with a medley of mushrooms, cream and truffle paste, topped with mozzarella cheese and parmesan - the Truffle Mushroom Lasagna.

Mushrooms, truffle cream and pasta? It's as if I wished for this dish to come true. Another bestseller, the dish was a delight. It's best to be shared by two and complemented with another main course since it becomes a little too flat towards the end.


What we loved about Atelier 317 is the relaxed vibe perfect for brunch, lunch and merienda. Their creative food options are a must-try as well.
