The Island Hotel - Bali

Traveling to Bali around June to July would be the best time of the year, when it is around the dry season. Although year-round temperatures remain almost the same, it would usually be rainy throughout October to March.

For our trip, instead of staying in lavish four star hotels around Bali, we went for The Island Hotel. We first experienced roughing it when we traveled around Cambodia last 2011, mingling with backpackers and solo travellers alike. Especially that we intended spending most of our days wandering about, we just didn't need to go high end.

The Island Hotel is located behind Legian Beach, recommended to be "less noisy" territory compared to Kuta Beach. Rated 4th out of 29 special lodgings around Legian, Island Hotel receives the most user feedback from Trip Advisor. Ten minutes of walking will get you to Legian Beach, and 20 minutes to Kuta Square. Legian, being in between Seminyak and Kuta, was the best location for us.

The hostel features deluxe, loft, twin and dorm type rooms. We reserved for the loft type, with two queen-sized double decker beds that can accommodate four. The room was really tiny, but okay for what we paid for. I wasn't able to take a photo of the bath, which was quite spacious.

Their dorm rooms are a favourite among backpackers.

Their cafe is the first thing that welcomes arrivals. It features a wood fire oven for cooking pizza, which we vowed to try during our stay.

Complimentary breakfasts would be served here, comprised of toast with spread and a selection of blended juices. I loved how the papaya lime juice gave fresh starts to our days in Bali.

The cafe features other food as well, such as pizza, pasta, burgers and salad.

These baked potatoes are just mouthwatering.

The pizza and pasta were both very scrumptious! It was quite a surprise to have them tasting so good, considering that it's just a hostel cafe.

The staff was accommodating enough to offer plates when we mentioned our leftover Metis ribs and potato wedges from the night before.

For bookings of more than three nights, guests will get a free massage and a reimbursement of around Php300 or $7 for the taxi fare travel towards the hotel. For the updated rates, you may check out their website. It would go around Php840 ($19) per head/night for the dorm rooms, Php2,000 ($45) for Twin Sharing and Loft, and Php2,500 ($55) for Deluxe Double.
