Under Bridge Spicy Crab 橋底辣蟹

Crab night! We were led to the Under Bridge Spicy Crab by Nikko and his mom, who have tried the restaurant middle of last year. Literally under the bridge, the brand has three branches located just a few minutes away from each other, all in Wan Chai.

The restaurant looks upscale in photos, but feels casual in actuality. Nikko was able to reserve a table for us from the hotel a few minutes prior to getting there.

They serve mostly fresh seafood, "Typhoon Shelter" style. They claim to fly in seafood from countries Australia, Vietnam, UK and Malaysia[1]. Hong Kong has thirteen typhoon shelters intended to protect boats and ships from strong winds and rough seas. "Typhoon Shelter Style" refers to the style of food preparation of typhoon shelter inhabitants.

Here are some of the live sea creatures we were able take photos of.

For the group of seven, we ordered three servings of small-sized Spicy Crab. When served, crabs were covered with tons of garlic, chilli bits and scallion strips. The sweet taste of the crab and savoury flavours of the fried garlic all came together, and we enjoyed every part of it.

The fried squid and tofu were nothing out of the ordinary, just okay.
Fried Squid [HKD 70]
Deep Fried Tofu [HKD 48]
The fried rice was good eaten by itself. We needed a lot of it since the dishes were really flavorful. The clams were really fresh, covered in spicy, full-flavored sauce.
Fried Rice [HKD 68 per plate] and Sautéed Mussels [HKD 75]
Spicy Pork Spare Ribs [HKD 68]
Steamed Pompano [HKD 120]
House tea doesn't come for free here, at HKD 8 per serving. Complimentary fruits were given at the end of the meal.

Great food experience, recommended for the usual HK visitors who haven't tried it. Another restaurant similar to Under Bridge Spicy Crab is Shun Kee Typhoon Shelter, which literally serves food at the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter in a floating restaurant.
